Engagement for Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection
Initiative of the IHK Koblenz
Drache successful in IHK‑Network
In November 2022, Drache Umwelttechnik GmbH took part in the launch event for the Koblenz Chamber of Industry and Commerce‘s “Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection Networks” initiative. The nationwide network initiative aims to jointly save final energy and sustainably reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, and more than 20 associations and economic organizations, as well as numerous regional partners.
Common goals – strong partnership Three networks, each comprising 8 to 12 companies, were involved in the Koblenz Chamber of Industry and Commerce initiative. At the outset, common savings targets were defined, which were then consistently pursued in regular meetings featuring specialist presentations and intensive exchanges of experience. In October 2025, the networks took stock—and the results speak for themselves: all networks were able to narrowly achieve or even significantly exceed their targets.
Our contribution to the network’s success Drache Umwelttechnik GmbH has also achieved impressive results over the past three years:
1,110 MWh annual savings in final energy consumption
553 t CO₂ annual reduction in greenhouse gas emissions
These successes were made possible by a variety of targeted measures:
Optimization of weekend operation of our roller hearth furnaces → significant savings in gas, electricity, and CO₂ emissions
Complete redesign and purchase of a modern heating system for our office and social rooms → around 50% reduction in energy consumption and emissions
Consistent use of renewable energies in the electricity sector → Installation of photovoltaic systems with a total capacity of 406 kWp → Switch to 100% green electricity in electricity procurement
Forward-looking and responsible The savings achieved show that committed action for the environment and climate pays off – both ecologically and economically. For us, this is an incentive to continue on our path toward even greater sustainability, energy efficiency, and climate-friendly production processes.
